Possible SEP Questions

For NUS CHBE students, generally we will have a group interview of 2-3 students with about 3 interviewers (our international coordinators). Each session is about 15 minutes with ~3 questions being asked for the whole group to answer.

In case you are wondering what could be asked at an SEP application interview, I compiled a non-exhaustive list of questions from those interviewed within my batch. Do prepare your study plans to be submitted as well and research more for at least your top 2 choices (most important).

Possible interview questions include:

  1. Why do you consider yourself a good candidate?
  2. Describe one achievement or something that you are proud of.
  3. What are your non-academic achievements?
  4. What do you plan to do in the future as a chemical engineer?
  5. Why did you choose chemical engineering?
  6. Describe some leadership roles that you have taken.
  7. Tell me about one instance of your leadership skills
  • About SEP in general / exchange students
  1. Why do you want to go overseas?
  2. Do you have any overseas experience?
  3. What do you hope to gain from this experience?
  4. What do you hope to bring to the people in your exchange?
  5. Have you interacted with exchange students previously?
  6. Name one place in Singapore that you will bring exchange student to.
  7. How will you build relations with the people there?
  8. How would describe NUS to foreign counterparts?
  • About the partner university / country
  1. Tell me something about your first/second choice of partner university.
  2. Why did you choose your first choice?
  3. Can you name something which recently happened in / the current affairs of the country of your first choice?
  • About NUS / studies
  1. What improvements would you like to see in NUS?
  2. Why do you think you will be a good ambassador of NUS?
  3. What / How would you promote or tell others about NUS?
  4. Name one non-core module that you have taken and explain how it is relevant to your life/why you took it?
